"A Note" by Wislawa Szymborska

A Note

Life is the only way
to get covered in leaves,
catch your breath on the sand,
rise on wings;

to be a dog,
or stroke its warm fur;

to tell pain
from everything it's not;

to squeeze inside events,
dawdle in views,
to seek the least of all possible mistakes.

An extraordinary chance
to remember for a moment
a conversation held
with the lamp switched off;

and if only once
to stumble upon a stone,
end up soaked in one downpour or another,

mislay your keys in the grass;
and to follow a spark on the wind with your eyes;
and to keep on not knowing
something important.

Dead Letter Depot

What a neat idea by Shay (Artefeque)... (A never-trained/studied, freak-of-fate multi media collage and journal artist for personal peace & past-time pleasures.)

Dead Letter Depot is "A site to exhibit mail art in the form of collage art postcards." ... a neat play on words as these cards will be posted every other day to my grandchildren (Cain, Dakota and No: 3 on his way at the end of April 2009) c/- of another address where they will be kept in safest keeping for them to have after my turn on this karmic wheel is complete. ... The cards will represent global,local,neighbourhod issues; thoughts on current events; memories or whatever caught my attention that day. I may say alot on the back or hardly comment whatever fits the day. ...This will be my legacy."

Sarah is a mixed-media artist and instructor who published a series of 22 mixed-media and written journaling prompts on her blog, inviting anyone who wished to join in the fun. "I want these books to be a mess of words, color, collage, etc. I want you to be able to be totally free with these and use them to express anything you wish." The response to this project was enormous and Soul Journaling was born. This group is for anyone who is interested in following Soul Journaling, whether you have just bought (or made) your first journal, are just starting the first 22 prompts, or are taking the Advanced Techniques Workshops, or anywhere in between. Maybe you are looking to share your work with others who have taken the Soul Journaling journey, or are interested in finding more prompts. "Grandmother" by Maggie Tomei. She dedicates her blog to her Grandmother and to "everyone who has a passion for art and creativity". She's a "self-taught" artist, and enjoys workshops. She especially enjoys mixed-media and assemblage, in which she tells a personal story incorporating found objects collected from early childhood on. This piece tells the story of her much loved grandmother who was a seamstress and furrier. First, she made an encaustic wax collage of her on canvas and finished the piece by placing the canvas in a painted box embellished with found objects that reminded the artist of her grandmother. Notice the glass heart entangled in a web of organza, symbolizing that her heart will always be with her grandmother. Her other passions are visual journaling, photography, altered art, book arts, ATC's, printmaking, painting, collage, and fiber art. She loves recycling things that have lost their use in today's society and incorporating them into her artwork.

Earth Your Dancing Place

Earth Your Dancing Place

Beneath heaven's vault
remember always walking
through halls of cloud
down aisles of sunlight
or through high hedges
of the green rain
walk in the world
highheeled with swirl of cape
hand at the swordhilt
of your pride
Keep a tall throat
Remain aghast at life

Enter each day
as upon a stage
lighted and waiting
for your step
Crave upward as flame
have keenness in the nostril
Give your eyes
to agony or rapture

Train your hands
as birds to be
brooding or nimble
Move your body
as the horses
sweeping on slender hooves
over crag and prairie
with fleeing manes
and aloofness of their limbs

Take earth for your own large room
and the floor of earth
carpeted with sunlight
and hung round with silver wind
for your dancing place

Joyful Heart

"Joyful Heart Encaustic Painting, mixed-media" by artist, JoAnn from my collage group. She writes "I really love how this turned out. It is on a wood panel that Ron made for me when using wax. Wax is not the best to put onto canvas, but a good solid wood panel works perfect. I love fusing my layers together with my heat gun. I have tried the iron to do this, but feel I have much more control with the heat gun. And I love adding oil paint to my encaustic medium. The colors are just so wonderful. On this piece, I have also used powered pigments which a great too. I have a joyful heart for many reasons, but one is when I'm playing with beeswax and I like what I create."

Gina's son Casey has died

Gina, from my Cardiomyopathy group wrote to say the her son, Casey died. He'd been diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy in August 2008, and died last week. He was too weak to be given a heart transplant, evidentally.

Concurrently, last week at the reiki support group, one volunteer shared that her "young" patient had died. She was very angry because he'd been on the heart transplant list and didn't get a heart. The volunteer argued that it didn't seem to be any trouble for the coach in NC to get a heart immediately, but she argued that her patient was black ... and was that the reason he didn't get one???

It is very helpful to be a part of such a group as "Cardiomyopathy". I am so much the lurker, but will now participate more.

Lots of inspiration for grunge techniquesAbove: I like the idea of using the yellow legal pad to print a header and then journal by hand on the rest of the page ... good idea. Below are just 2 interesting layouts based on a weekly prompt. Is that masking tape?and the next one is simple, nice colored paper, typewriter font, minimal designthe next shows a tapewidth black swath ... either with tape or probably paint and white writing ... I need to get black paint and white gel pen!!!next: 3 identical photos/different coloring ... minimal layout

Quote: Happy People

The happiest people are those who think the most interesting thoughts. Those who decide to use leisure as a means of mental development, who love good music, good books, good pictures, good company, good conversation, are the happiest people in the world. And they are not only happy in themselves, they are the cause of happiness in others. — William Lyon Phelps
