"Grandmother" by Maggie Tomei. She dedicates her blog to her Grandmother and to "everyone who has a passion for art and creativity". She's a "self-taught" artist, and enjoys workshops. She especially enjoys mixed-media and assemblage, in which she tells a personal story incorporating found objects collected from early childhood on. This piece tells the story of her much loved grandmother who was a seamstress and furrier. First, she made an encaustic wax collage of her on canvas and finished the piece by placing the canvas in a painted box embellished with found objects that reminded the artist of her grandmother. Notice the glass heart entangled in a web of organza, symbolizing that her heart will always be with her grandmother. Her other passions are visual journaling, photography, altered art, book arts, ATC's, printmaking, painting, collage, and fiber art. She loves recycling things that have lost their use in today's society and incorporating them into her artwork.
